About Us

Founded in November of 2009 with a handful of devoted and passionate dancers and musicians, Dukati and Biseri Folklore Ensemble has grown into a performing ensemble representing Serbian and Macedonian folklore through the performing arts. The ensemble spans from adolescents to adults who are brought together for the same passion and love of traditional music and dance. The purpose of the ensemble is to research and perform traditional folk dance and music. In addition, the ensemble collects and restores traditional clothing and instruments. These artifacts act as a vestige to life in the Balkans which are more than a century old.

Dukati and Biseri Folklore Ensemble is a Serbian and Macedonian folklore ensemble functions as an independent traditional performing arts non-profit 501(c)3 organization separate from any other cultural, religious, or educational institution.

With humble beginnings and few financial resources, the group began performing in the Chicagoland area at local festivals and concerts. Throughout the past six years, D&B has made connections with ensembles in the Mid-West and throughout the United States as well as Canada and Europe.

Today the ensemble consists of the performing ensemble, junior ensemble, men's and women's vocal ensemble, and orchestra who regularly hold rehearsals at The Studio at D&B in Chicago's Norwood Park neighborhood.
